THE ALTRUISTIC E.G.O. by Maria Cristina Gorrospe

"Aim high.", "Focus.", "Work hard.", "Seek divine intervention.", "Achieve your goals.", "The biggest room on earth is the room for improvement." and "Recognize your weaknesses and improve them." are the philosophies Dr. Eduardo Gutierrez Ong live by. He dreams a legacy of service to his fellowmen, most especially the youth, through quality education and technology.

Born to Jose Tan Ong Huy and Valeriana Gutierrez in Malabon, Metro Manila, "EG", as he is fondly called by family and friends, belongs to a brood of six children. He is a very loving and caring son to his parents, going out of his way to serve and please them every moment he gets. Even though they are already deceased (his mother died last year), he continuously shows his affection and thoughtfulness to them by visiting their graves at least once a month, offer prayers for them, and invoke their guidance in the various endeavors he pursues.

EG has two sons, Raymond Edward and Eduardo Jr., whom he equally loves. He is a good provider and took care of his children who are now gainfully employed. He would see to it that he spends quality time with them, most especially during their growing years. He loves to read books, magazines and other materials that enhance knowledge. He also loves watching movies, playing golf and traveling.

EG started his schooling at the Philippine Chinese Yok Lin School, where he graduated 3rd Honor. He had his Secondary/High School education at the Jose Rizal High School (JRHS) where he was given the Leadership Award. He pursued a degree in Commerce (BSC) at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) where he earned awards for Outstanding Leadership and Academic Excellence. After college but still in UST, he enrolled in law school and earned a degree in Bachelor of Laws (Ll.B.). Then, he proceeded to take his Masters in Business Administration (MBA), then Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Commerce and graduated Magna Cum Laude (Benemeritus). And as if one doctorate degree is not enough, he enrolled in Trinity University of Asia's Graduate School and finished his Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) in 2005.

A very dedicated, conscientious, hardworking and very focused worker, it is of no wonder that EG is a very respected management and public relations consultant, educator, real estate broker and consultant, arbitrator/mediator, and entrepreneur. He worked himself up, from a mere storekeeper at the Malabon Public Market at the age of 12, EG became the President and Chief Executive Officer of various corporations engaged in real estate, business consultancy, and the academe at the age of 40. He was conferred Diplomate in Business Education (DBE) by the Philippine Academy of Professionals in Business Education. He is a fellow in Real Estate Management and Personnel Management.

Being in the academe for 25 years, EG has an extensive experience on education. Currently, he is a professor of Business and Public Administration and Entrepreneurship at Trinity University of Asia (TUA), University of Santo Tomas (UST), University of the East (UE), Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), in the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration, Board Member of Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST), Chairman of the Board of Regents of the Pamantasan ng San Mateo, and Vice-President for Administration of Our Lady of Lourdes College. He was Dean of Business of the University of Perpetual Help - Rizal for five years.

Besides the academe, he held positions in various organizations too. Currently, he is Vice-President for Education of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President of the Philippine Society for Public Administration, Industry Chairman of the Association of Schools of Public Administration in the Philippines (ASPAP-NCR), Chairman of Capital Market Institute of the Philippines, President of the Philippine Council of Real Estate Educators, President of PCCI Credit Cooperative Inc., and President of National Center for Mediation (NCR).

Among others, he was Vice-President for Academic Affairs of the Southeast Asian College, President of the Philippine Institute of Management and Applied Technology and of the Worldlink Realty Inc., Chairman of Idea Act Advertising Corporation, and Board Member of St. Paul University.

EG is an active Regional Quality Assessor and member of the Technical Panel for Business of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and a Board Member of the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

EG is a distinguished speaker and resource person in business and industry, both here and abroad. A prolific writer and former columnist of the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI), he authored five books: Winning in Real Estate; Philippine Style; Managing Human Resources in the Philippine Business; Research Methodology; Sociology in the Philippine Setting and Asia Civilization. He was a broadcaster and television hosts of the programs Kartada Alas at IBC 13 (2004), Pilipinas Ngayon (2006), and Entrepinoy (2006).

A Taurean, EG is a very loyal and true friend who will go out of his way to help and assist people. He does not like hypocrites and pretenders. When asked what he liked most in Trinity University of Asia, he said, "TUA has a very conducive academic environment. It gives its faculty and students (the) chance to develop and hone their skills and competencies. It provides good opportunity for learning and research. I can see support and empowerment from its administration in terms of continuing improvement of facilities and technology. (There is) good camaraderie among (its) faculty and school administrators."
